Pressure will not build
Often a leak in the system, a slipping or broken drive belt, a blocked intake filter or a worn pump. Check the simple items first — belts and filters are inexpensive parts.
Overheating
Usually poor ventilation, a low or degraded oil level, or a machine running well beyond its intended duty cycle.
Water or oil in the air line
Water points to a receiver that is not being drained or a system without adequate drying and filtration. Oil carry-over suggests a pump or separation issue.
Unusual noise or vibration
Check mountings, pulley alignment and belt tension before assuming internal damage. If the noise persists, stop the machine and arrange a repair.
